Australian Longdrop (The Dunny)
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:27:16 AM »

When you've gotta go in the outback, it's the blistering desert
or one of Australia's finest traditions - the dunny.

They were funny-looking buildings
that were once a way of life.
If you couldn't sprint the distance,
then you really were in strife.

They were nailed, they were wired,
but were mostly falling down.
There was one in every yard,
in every house, in every town.

They were given many names
some were even funny,
But to most of us, we knew them
as the outhouse or the dunny.

:icon_biggrin:

Kom ons skryf ons eie gedig in Afrikaans.

There was a red-back on the toilet seat
When I was there last night,
I didn’t see him in the dark,
But boy! I felt his bite!
I jumped high up into the air,
And when I hit the ground,
That crafty red-back spider
Wasn’t nowhere to be found.

I rushed in to the missus,
Told her just where I’d been bit,
She grabbed the cut throat razor blade,
And I nearly took a fit.
I said, “Just forget what’s on your mind,
And call a doctor please,
‘Cause I’ve got a feeling that your cure
Is worse than the disease.”

There was a red-back on the toilet seat
When I was there last night,
I didn’t see him in the dark,
But boy! I felt his bite!
And now I’m here in hospital,
A sad and sorry plight,
And I curse that red-back spider
On the toilet seat last night.

I can’t lay down, I can’t sit up,
And I don’t know what to do,
And all the nurses think it’s funny,
But that’s not my point of view.
I tell you it’s embarrassing,
And that’s to say the least
That I’m too sick to eat a bite,
While that spider had a feast!

And when I get back home again,
I tell you what I’ll do,
I’ll make that red-back suffer
For the pain I’m going through.
I’ve had so many needles
That I’m looking like a sieve,
And I promise you that spider
Hasn’t very long to live!

There was a red-back on the toilet seat
When I was there last night,
I didn’t see him in the dark,
But boy! I felt his bite!
And now I’m here in hospital,
A sad and sorry plight,
And I curse that red-back spider
On the toilet seat last night.

Ek dink ook my stinkgatwoordjie is heel gepas.   :angel4:

PM, ek is verkrukkeld gelag. Jou beskrywing is so goed soos 'n gediggie uit toeka se dae vanself!!
:icon_bigsmurf: In Gatkantland doen ons mos dinge half in oortreffende trap. Al ooit 'n drie-gat-privaat gesien?

In vergange se dae het die oumense
soms dinge kreatief 'anders' gedoen.

Van drielaag-sagte-afvee
was daar geen sprake nie!

Hulle sou bedruk aan "ounuus" lees
voordat dit sekuur, verfrommeld was.

Dan sou die ou-ou spreekwoord,
heel letterlik toegepas word...

Nog 'n 'loo-gedig'  :toothy4: Ek wonder of daar in Afrikaans soveel lyne-hulde gebring is aan hierdie nederige plekkie?

The Dunny by the Bush Bard, the late, Mike McGee

When I was just a little lad and my favourite jam was honey,
The thing that I remember most would be the old bush dunny.
It stood ten yards down the dark bush track,
 Where sunlight shafts were rare
And it was old and clammy on the parts you had to bare.
You had to want to go real bad to venture down that track
And you knew that things were watching as you quickly hurried back.
If nature called at midnight, it would fill your heart with dread
And you’d thank the Lord for the pot beneath your bed.
With the Herald piled on the seat, cut in eight inch squares
A lot of folk around that make it quite an issue,
With affection at it’s best, it’s now called Bathroom Tissue.
My mind goes back to the dread that filled my soul,
Of things not yet discovered that were living down that hole.
I look back to those times again and picture that old dunny,
When I was just a little lad and my favourite jam was honey.

So gese, so gemaak.
JY SIT IN MY LIG.

Hahahahha Assie, hier by ons is daar twee boeke vol van sulke 'aardse' gebeure aangeteken.
